Human Resources Assistant

University Emergency Medicine Foundation (UEMF) is currently seeking to fill our newly created Human Resources Assistant position.  This part-time, 30-hour-per-week position is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, organized, and detailed-oriented professional to join our energetic, fast-paced team and to gain valuable hands-on knowledge in the field of Human Resources. Under the general direction of the Human Resources Specialist, the Human Resources Assistant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day activities of the Human Resources department. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Prepare and update necessary paperwork for the on-boarding process and upload UEMF thumb drives with policy and procedure documents
  2. Conduct OIG, background, and references checks on new hires.
  3. Coordinate and schedule the annual mandated staff trainings including, but not limited to: Non-Harassment, HIPAA, and Prevention of Workplace Violence
  4. Perform an annual audit on all UEMF employment boards to ensure that all Federal and State Labor laws are up-to-date.
  5. Work with the Physician Services Administrator (PSA) to on-board physicians and midlevel providers. This includes but is not limited to maintaining offer letters and agreements, updating new hire packets,  preparing new hire packets, and communicating with the (PSA) regarding new hires
  6. Respond to verifications of employment letters or requests
  7. Audit monthly benefit carrier invoices for discrepancies
  8. Assist with preparing, scanning, and collating benefit information for Open Enrollment, Benefit Committee Meetings, and Board of Director Meetings
  9. Assist with developing and disseminating the Quarterly Benefit Newsletter
  10. Enter all employee data including but not limited to Demographic, Salary, Education and Training, PPD, I-9, W-4 and Performance Evaluation information into the HRIS database
  11. Assist with updating and maintaining the performance evaluations for the administrative team.
  12. Assist with updating UEMF policies & procedures manuals
  13. Assist in transition from paper to electronic personnel files upload. Maintain electronic personnel files on active and terminated employees by organizing and scanning all necessary paperwork

Required Qualifications

  1. Position requires an Associate’s degree in Business Management or a related field with a minimum of 1-2 years related experience.
  2. Previous knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) databases.
  3. Must be an effective written and verbal communicator.
  4. Must submit a background release form and demonstrate proof of being free from disqualifying information.
  5. Must have a driver’s license and access to an insured vehicle as some transportation may be required.
  6. Must possess ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner.

IT Networking Intern

University Emergency Medicine Foundation (UEMF) is an Academic Emergency Medical Practice, with over 85 full-time physicians, several midlevel providers, various part-time providers, and a full support team. As a Department of Brown University School of Medicine, UEMF provides staffing of Board Certified Emergency Physicians to the region's only Level I Trauma Center as well as the state's only children's specialty Emergency Department; and to a leading community hospital. Over 200,000 patients annually are treated by UEMF providers.

We are currently offering an exciting IT Networking Internship for an enthusiastic, organized, and detail-oriented professional looking to apply classroom concepts and knowledge to the work environment. UEMF’s IT department strives to provide interns with professional development in all facets of Information Technology that will assist him or her in acquiring the skills necessary for future advancement. The IT Intern will assist with providing computer support and maintenance to UEMF's systems and staff, including, but not limited to: maintenance of server, hardware, telecommunications, e-mail, and security systems.

Significant Job Functions:

1. Audits IT asset register. 

2. Assists IT staff and partners with installation and maintenance activity.

3. General understanding of firewalls, switches, and wireless technologies.

4. Provides troubleshooting support to staff on organization's network, VoIP, EMR, desktops, printers, scanners, copiers, etc.

5. Possesses a general understanding of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including hardware and software RAID, SAN, NAS, VLAN, and TCP/IP.

6. Investigates hardware, software, and network problems.

7. Setup and installation of PCs and related hardware for all new employees.

8. Updates and maintains technical documentation, processes, and application changes.

9. Other activities as directed depending on level of technical knowledge (at Lead IT Specialist's discretion).

  1. Must be currently enrolled at an accredited University or College as an undergraduate junior or senior or graduate student in a declared major of Information Technology with Networking Minor, Network Administration, or Network Engineering
  2. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Emergency Medicine Development Program for Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners

The core curriculum affords new graduates exposure to weekly resident conferences and learning opportunities in addition to extended clinical mentoring time through department rotations with RIH EM Midlevels. The Emergency Medicine development year at RIH will enhance the medical knowledge and clinical skills of Midlevels in the field of emergency medicine through various focused educational activities. During the development year, our EM Midlevels receive 5 hours of didactic conferences each week, while building their clinical acumen through hands-on training in the emergency department. In addition to the didactic learning, the year will also include participation in procedure workshops and lectures to ensure competencies in common ER procedures. Each new graduate is also provided the opportunity to participate in ACLS, ATLS and gain exposure to our Medical Simulation Center. New graduates will rotate through adult and pediatric sites involved in active, supervised patient management.

The Emergency Medicine Development program is a 12 month postgraduate training program. Eligible applicants must have:

Medical Scribe

We are currently seeking motivated, organized, professionals for both part-time and full-time roles for our Medical Scribe positions with a start date of late spring 2014 (with interviewing to begin in late April 2014). This position is a great opportunity for an individual interested in beginning or furthering their career in healthcare. The Medical Scribe will be responsible for assisting our Emergency Department physicians in accurately documenting and transcribing patient encounters including histories and physical exams, working directly with the physicians to maximize efficiency and optimize patient throughput, tracking laboratory and radiographic test results and transcribing them into the medical record, retrieving prior patient records including former EKGs, test results and discharge summaries, gathering medical supplies as needed for various medical procedures, completing worker’s compensation forms, MRI screening forms and next day non-invasive forms, assigning accurate evaluation and management codes, auditing physician charts and providing appropriate feedback, ensuring records are complete, and generating discharge instructions and patient prescriptions as dictated by the ED physician.

Qualified candidates will have interest in furthering a career in the medical field and will work well in a fast past environment and willingness to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.  Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Good data entry and hand writing skills. Knowledge of medical terminology, preferred.  Prior healthcare experience is an advantage.
